Polish Welders help McKendry Fabrications Buck the trend

I couldn’t agree more with Colin McKendrys comments on the Belfast Telegraph owner of McKendry Fabrications, who has a positive attitude to the current market. In my opinion if you keep positive and work hard then you can take advantage of this current crisis.

One of the huge advantages of being small is you can be flexible and make changes quickly, unlike the bigger corporates who can get caught out. But it isn’t his growth that has caught my eye but his attitude to the work force, shows you what can be achieved.

As you may or may not know I used to be in recruitment, and to some extent still am and I hear so much about the exploitation of workers particularly of contractors from the new European countries. Unfortunately there is a tendency to take advantage and although there is a cash benefit he still see knows the value of good workers and how to reward, it isn’t all about money, and as Colin puts it:

“Polish immigrants are very good because of the traditional training that still exists in that country, and I have two Polish foremen,” he said.

“I invest a lot in their training and even help them get on language courses, as well as assisting with their housing and I have helped with bringing their wives over.

“I help them get accommodation and to integrate into the community.”
