Sri Lanka to certify 500k Construction Personnel

Well if you wasn’t worried before Sri Lanka are looking to certify their 500,000 construction workers of various trades to be certified to make it easier for them to gain work with other countries with the UK being one of them for sure.

It is quite frustrating at times knowing that we are going to be flooded with cheap labour, but I do have mixed views one of which is the effect it will have on UK trades men and secondly from the other side it will be a important way of bringing wealth to their country and help their families who are below the poverty line.

Remittances from migrant workers, estimated at around $2.5 billion in 2007, are an important source of foreign exchange for Sri Lanka, second only to earnings from apparel exports. Link

How this will turn out, time will only tell.
